Women’s Tennis Makes Debut in National ITA Rankings

SKILLMAN, N.J. -After posting its most wins in the South Atlantic Conference era, Anderson University women's tennis entered the Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Rankings for the first time this season, earning the No. 49 slot, while earning the No. 9 position in the final ITA Southeast Regional Rankings, announced by the ITA on Wednesday.

In addition to the rankings, the doubles team of sophomore Rebecca Bruning and freshman Ivey Welborn was ranked fifth in the final regional doubles poll. The pair remains in the fifth spot for the third consecutive month.

Bruning and Welborn closed the 2015 campaign with a 13-5 overall record, headlined by a 7-3 mark in the South Atlantic Conference while playing all 18 matches at the No. 1 position. For their efforts, the pair earned SAC First Team Doubles honors after being named to the Preseason All-SAC Second Team Doubles list before the start of the year.

As a team, the Trojans ended the season with a 15-6 overall record and advanced to the semifinals of the SAC Tournament in April. AU opened its postseason with a 5-4 upset victory over fourth-seeded Newberry, avenging an earlier season setback.

Within the regional rankings, the Black and Gold are one of five teams from the SAC to land in the top-10.
