Trojans Earn Share of SAC Regular Season Title With 13-6 Win Over Newberry

ANDERSON, S.C. – In just the second year of the program the Anderson University (14-2, 9-1 SAC) women's lacrosse team will share a piece of the South Atlantic Conference regular season title as they finished their season with a 13-6 win over Newberry (9-7, 7-3 SAC) to secure their spot in a three-way tie atop the conference standings. Due to tiebreakers the Trojans will be the No. 3 seed in the conference tournament.

Sophomore Alicia Cannon (Tarzana, Calif.) led the team with seven points in the contest split across four goals and three assists. Freshman Rayne Dobson (Houston, Texas) was able to match Cannon's efforts in the goal department with four as well to go with a single assist to account for five points in the game. Sophomore Ava Drath (Hudsonville, Mich.) was a wall in goal for the Black and Gold today as she recorded 10 saves, allowing just six goals and picking up her 13th win of the year.

The contest was a battle in the opening 15 minutes of action, despite the Trojans getting on the board within five minutes of the opening whistle and adding another just over two minutes later, the Wolves were able to hold them to just two goals in the frame while turning in a goal themselves, with Anderson leading 2-1 after one. The two teams traded ties at 2-2 and 3-3 in the second quarter until the 9:40 mark in the period when Cannon recorded her second of the contest to finish the back half of a two-goal streak, boosting Anderson's lead to 5-3. The Trojans outscored the visitors by a 3-1 margin over the final minutes of the opening half, taking the 8-4 lead into the locker room.

The third quarter was all Anderson as they were able to rattle off all three goals in the frame to increase their advantage to 11-4. Another two goals were added by each side in the final 15 minutes of action as Anderson was able to put it out of reach and secure the 13-6 win.

Anderson will now play host to No. 6 seeded Lincoln Memorial in the opening round of the SAC tournament at 3:00 PM on Saturday, April 20.
