Dynamic Denbow Duo Boost Trojans to 30-Point Win Over Newberry

NEWBERRY, S.C. – Senior Garrett Denbow (Ashland, Ohio) and sophomore Luke Denbow (Ashland, Ohio) combined to tally 59 points in the contest as the Anderson University (14-11, 9-8 SAC) men's basketball team bettered the Newberry College (6-16, 5-12 SAC) Wolves by a score of 97-67 on Wednesday, February 21.

Garrett Denbow set a new career mark for three-pointers made in a game with nine as he was able to tally 35 points in the contest to lead all scorers. Luke Denbow notched 24 points on the night while sophomore Cole Middleton (Atlanta, Ga.) added 17 to go with his team-high seven rebounds. Freshman AJ Wright Jr. (Tampa, Fla.) was just a point of and an assist away from a double-double as he recorded nine in each category. The Trojans led for 37:10 in the game, accounting for 92.9% of the contest time.

Anderson wasted no time in the early goings of the contest, doubling the Wolves point total on the scoreboard by the first media timeout, 14-7. Newberry did climb back into the contest, closing the gap to just four with under 12 minutes to play and eventually swung the lead into their favor with 9:11 left to play in the first. However, that lead only lasted for 36 seconds as the Trojans were able to hit a three pointer from junior Austin Webb (South Point, Ohio) to return the lead to their side of the score line.

That lead never changed hands again, ballooning to double digits by the under-four-minute media timeout and further extending out to 13 at the half as the Black and Gold carried the 44-31 lead into the locker room.

The second half was more of the same as the Trojans were able to increase their advantage to 20 points in the first two minutes of action, forcing an early Newberry timeout. However, the timeout didn't do what Newberry had hoped for as Anderson continued to pour it on offensively, leading to a 26-point advantage halfway through the closing stanza. The Anderson advantage did not drop below 25 for the remainder of the contest, reaching as many as 30 on multiple occasions with the Trojans taking home the win at that top margin, 97-67.

Anderson returns to action on Saturday, February 24 as they make the trip to Wingate, N.C. to take on the town's namesake university in a conference showdown set for a 4:00 p.m. tip.
