Trojans Fall In SAC Semifinal Despite Strong Middle Half Performance

GAFFNEY, S.C. – Making their first foray into the South Atlantic Conference semifinals in the second year of the program, the Anderson University (15-3) women's lacrosse team dropped the 14-10 decision to Limestone (16-1) on the road on Wednesday, April 24.

Sophomore Alicia Cannon (Tarzana, Calif.), who was recently named the SAC Attacker of the Year, led the Trojans with six points on the evening, evenly spread across a trio of goals and assists. Sophomore Sophia Santagata (North Port, Fla.) turned in three points on the night with two goals and an assist while freshmen Rayne Dobson (Houston, Texas), named Freshman of the Year, and Ava Skeffington (Charlotte, N.C.) each tallied a pair of scores. Sophomore Lili Bouwma (Grand Rapids, Mich.) added a goal in the game as well.

The Trojans found themselves behind early in the contest as they let the first four goals of the game go up on their opponents side of the scoreboard. Bouwma was able to break the drought late in the first quarter but the Saints added one more to take the 5-1 lead. However, the Trojans cranked up the heat in the second quarter as they were able to outscore Limestone by a 6-2 margin over the next fifteen minutes, including pairs of goals from Dobson, Skeffington and Cannon to level the contest at seven heading into the halftime break.

The third quarter was an even keeled battle between the two squads as each team was able to post a pair of goals on the board, with Santagata recording both of hers on the night in the quarter. Unfortunately for the Trojans, similarly to the regular season match-up the Saints were able to rattle off four straight goals in the fourth quarter to retake the advantage before the teams traded goals over the final seven minutes of action with Limestone taking the 14-10 win.

The Trojans historic year ends with a 15-3 overall record and a share of the SAC Regular Season title.
