Women’s Tennis Prepares for A Pair of Nonconference Matches This Weekend

ANDERSON, S.C. - After seeing its three-match winning streak snapped on Tuesday, Anderson University women's tennis looks to bounced back with a pair of road contests against Conference Carolinas opponents beginning on Saturday with a trip to Limestone at 11 a.m., followed by a meeting with Converse at 1 p.m.

The Trojans
With a 6-3 setback to Newberry on Tuesday, AU fell to 9-4 on the season with a 6-3 record in South Atlantic Conference play, as it sits alone in fourth place in the current league standings. The Trojans are 5-2 away from the Electric City this season, as the two contests this weekend will be sixth and seventh straight road matches.

Continuing to lead the Black and Gold this season is sophomore Rebecca Bruning as she is the only Trojan with double figure wins with an 11-2 overall record. Bruning saw her eight-match conference winning streak snapped on Tuesday against the Wolves, but still boasts an 8-1 record in the conference this season.

Following the sophomore is senior Lindsay Gregory and junior Alexandra Ebner with nine triumphs apiece, as the pair holds identical 6-3 marks in the SAC. Gregory has won her last four singles matches playing at the No. 5 positon, while Ebner has captured wins in three of her last four matches at No. 4.

In doubles, Bruning and freshman Ivey Welborn holds seven victories on the year with a 6-2 record against the conference. Most recently, the tandem was slotted No. 24 in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Rankings, marking their second appearance in the national rankings this season.

The Saints
Limestone has captured victories in its last six matches and brings a 6-3 overall record into the weekend. Within their Conference Carolinas schedule, the Saints are a perfect 5-0, headlined by three straight 9-0 wins over conference foes Emmanuel, Mount Olive and Barton. Most recently, Limestone knocked off No. 29 ranked Lander, 5-4, for its first win over a nationally-ranked program this season.

Alexandra Boulbin leads the team in singles victories with an 8-1 overall record while playing at the No. 2 position. After dropping her first singles match of the year against Division I Gardner-Webb, Boulbin has rattled off eight straight wins. Following Boulbin is Manon Janin with a 6-3 mark at No. 1 as she comes into the week on a four-match winning streak.

For the doubles portions, Boulbin and teammate Marian Pinate pace the squad with seven wins at the No. 1 spot. The tandem join Janin and Julia Moreira with perfect records against Conference Carolinas opponents, as Boulbin and Pinate are 5-0 at No. 1, while Janin and Moreira are 4-0 at No. 3.

The Valkyries
Converse has dropped three of its last four contests and comes into Sunday's match with a 1-8 overall record. The Valkyries lone victory this season came on March 15 when they squeaked by conference rival Lees-McRae, 5-4, marking their third victory in Conference Carolinas in the last two seasons.

As a team, Converse is 5-49 in singles action this season with Klaire Rouse posting a team-high three singles wins on the year at the No. 5 and No. 6 positions. Two of Rouse's three wins on the year have been against league opponents, as she has dropped two of her last three singles matches.

In doubles, the Valkyries has claimed seven wins, but have failed to post a doubles triumph since its 6-3 setback to Barton on March 20.
