Make it Rayne! Dobson's Seven Goals Lifts Trojans to 19-7 Win over Young Harris

ANDERSON, S.C. – Freshman Rayne Dobson (Houston, Texas) tallied a game-high seven goals while sophomore Alicia Cannon (Tarzana, Calif.) added six more as the Anderson University (2-0) women's lacrosse team downed Young Harris (0-2) by a score of 19-7 at Spero Financial field on Thursday, February 8.

Sophomore Sophia Santagata (North Port, Fla.), senior Kelly Coster (Poughquag, N.Y.), and freshman Ava Skeffington (Charlotte, N.C.) each added a pair of goals on the evening. Freshman Kathryn McCabe (Alpharetta, Ga.) posted a team-high five ground balls with sophomore Meredith Dawson (Beavercreek, Ohio) adding four while leading the team with three caused turnovers. Sophomore Ava Drath (Hudsonville, Mich.) was a rock between the pipes for the Trojans making eight saves in the contest.

After conceding the opening goal of the contest, the Trojans were able to take a 5-1 lead at the end of the first quarter with four different scorers tallying goals in the frame. The two teams traded goals in the opening minutes of the second quarter before Anderson was able to extend their lead with a four-goal run, extending their advantage to 11-3. Another three-goal run took the game into the half-time break with the Trojans forcing a running clock with their 10-goal advantage.

That ten-goal advantage only expanded for the Black and Gold in the second half of the contest as they were able to outscore the Lions by a 3-1 margin in the third quarter of action before posting an even 2-2 fourth quarter, wrapping up the 19-7 win.

The Trojans will now rest for a week before traveling to Wise, Va. on Thursday, February 15 to take on the Cavaliers at 4:00 p.m.
