SUMTER, S.C. - As Anderson University men's and women's tennis continue their fall schedules, two doubles tandems shined as Anderson University men's and women's tennis completed the Southeast Regional Small College ITA/USTA Championships Sunday afternoon at the Palmetto Tennis Center.
The women's team of sophomore Rebecca Bruning and freshman Ivey Welborn advanced to the semifinals of the Women's Open Doubles A bracket after stringing together three consecutive victories in the 32-team tournament. Within in their three-match winning streak, the tandem dropped a combined four games headlined by an 8-0 blanking in the Round-of-8.
In the semifinals, the duo's run was cutdown with an 8-3 setback to No. 5 seeded Dora Andrejszki and Lena Lutzeier of Armstrong Atlantic State.
On the men's side, sophomores Juan Carracedo and Mateo Rivas opened their doubles bracket with back-to-back victories before falling in the Round-of-8 to fourth-seeded Fernando Bogajo and Pablo Gor of Armstrong. In the singles round, Rivas posted a tiebreaking win in the consolation bracket.
Anderson closes its fall season in late October as its championship season begins in early February.
