ANDERSON, S.C.– Anderson University softball (11-11, 2-0 SAC) begins conference play, 2-0, after sweeping South Atlantic Conference foe Catawba (12-14, 0-2 SAC) winning game one, 9-1(5 innings), and winning game two, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon at the AU Softball Complex.
Game One
- The Trojans outhit the Lady Indians, 9-2.
- The game was tied, 1-1, after the top half of the third inning. The Black and Gold exploded for eight runs in the bottom half of the inning.
- In the bottom of the third, Anderson had five hits and used two Catawba errors. Junior Maddie Carpenter and freshman Paige Vickery each homered.
- Laken Maxwell (6-5) had another strong showing giving up just two hits and striking out nine batters. Maxwell currently leads the SAC with 107 strikeouts.
Game Two
- Catawba outhit the Trojans, 10-4.
- Sophomore Carson Hobbs collected two of Anderson's four hits. Senior Ava Worthy hit a solo home run in the bottom of the fourth to give AU a, 2-1 lead.
- Anderson was able to scratch out a lone run in the bottom of the fifth inning to create a little separation, 3-1.
- Graduate Morgen Baker-Celis (4-3) went the distance pitching seven inning. Baker-Celis scattered 10 hits while striking out eight.
Next Up
Anderson will begin play its first conference road game when it travels to Emory & Henry on Wednesday. First-pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 2 pm.
