Trojans with Strong Start to Outdoor Season

CHARLOTTE/HICKORY, N.C.-- Anderson's track and field teams open their outdoor season this weekend (March 15-16), with athletes competing at the 49er Classic in Charlotte, N.C. and the LR Bears Open in Hickory, N.C. 

"We had great showings at the two meets we attended this weekend," said head coach Kevin Eagle. "Now we must focus on improving even more and not settling on how we just preformed." 

49er Classic 

The four Trojans competing in the women's 10000-meter race all finished within the Top-10, with Kennedy Roush taking first place (36:27), Emily Golden taking third (36:53), Faith Nelson seventh (38:37) and Lucy Schmitt eighth (38:45). 

In a race with more than one hundred athletes, sophomore Elliot Dotson and senior Daniel Similton finished in the Top-20 of the men's 1500-meter, with Dotson landing 15th overall with a time of 3:55.72 and Similton taking 17th running 3:56.00. Freshman Noah Stump finished 42nd in the competition with a time of 4:05.77, followed by sophomore Adam Trusty who ran for a 4:06.75 45th-place finish. 

The men's 10000-meter race saw freshman Jake Dentler finish 12th overall, running a 31:48.00, followed by Ty Nelson (31:51.62), Jack Barrett (32:46) and Sean McAdams (36:09.72). 

Competing in the decathlon, Tyler Farris earned 5552 points, followed by David Brown with 4701 points. Ally Macurda concluded the heptathlon competition with 3659 points. 

Mclayne Wyatt ran for 19:07 in the women's 5000-meter open, while Elise Matthews finished the women's 5000-meter invite with a time of 18:15.  

 

LR Bears Open 

Three Trojans competed in the women's 400-meter dash, with Lacey Boozer finishing 3rd overall with an Anderson program record of 56.54, followed by Brianna Quartararo in 6th at 57.67 and Emma Whitaker in 11th at 1:02.04. 

In the men's 400-meter dash, Ben Molitor ran for a 49.69 4th-place finished, while Ian Macurda finished 10th with a time of 51.47. 

David Williams finished 10th in the men's 1500-meter race with a time of 4:13.92. In the women's 1500-meter race, Hagan Wilson ran 5:16, Hannah Reedy ran 5:30 and Madison Crumley ran 5:35. 

Dallas Cantrell finished the 110-meter hurdles at 17.62, while Darrion Perry completed the 400-meter hurdles at 57.16. 

The 100-meter dash saw Joeli Hayden run for 12.99 on the women's side and Cullen Ussery recording 11.36 in the men's competition.  

Ben Molitor finished 7th in the men's 200-meter dash with a time of 22.22, followed by Aidan Mckinnie in 10th at 22.28 and Cullen Ussery in 19th with 22.81, 

Blaine Blose took 2nd in the men's javelin throw with a 53.28-meter mark. Neely Bell finished 6th overall in the women's javelin competition with a 27.68-meter throw.  

Sarah Wimpee threw for a 10.52-meter 9th-place women's shot put finish, while the men's shot put competition saw Chase Brightharp throw for 12.12 meters, Blake Cooke for 11.63 meters and Grayson Smith for 10.69 meters. 

Kirsten Leonard finished the women's pole vault competition in 4th place, notching a 3.38-meter mark, followed by Jorja Fox with a 3.08-meter jump and Madison Crumley with a 2.48-meter jump. Lucas Pryor and Lambdin Hardy competed in the men's pole vault, finishing 3rd and 4th respectively with marks of 4.36 meters and 4.26 meters.  

Georgia Piper finished tied for first in the women's high jump competition with a 1.61-meter mark, while Jordan Gross notched a 5th-place 1.88-meter jump on the men's side. Maggie Long recorded a 5.04-meter long jump, followed by Cate Murawski with a 4.35-meter mark.
