Trojans Return to Form With 21-4 Dismantaling of Catawba

SALISBURY, N.C. – Freshman Rayne Dobson (Houston, Texas) posted a game-high 10 points while sophomore Alicia Cannon (Tarzana, Calif.) turned in an eight-point performance as the Anderson University (10-2, 6-1 SAC) women's lacrosse team picked up a 21-4 win over Catawba (2-10, 1-5 SAC) on the road on Saturday, March 30.

Dobson recorded her collegiate-high point total with eight goals, a career-high mark as well, to go along with her two assists. Cannon posted an even split for her eight points, with four goals and four assists. Sophomore Sophia Santagata (North Port, Fla.) and freshman Ava Skeffington (Charlotte, N.C.) each recorded a trio of goals while senior Kelly Coster (Poughquag, N.Y.) posted a trio of assists. Sophomore Ava Drath (Hudsonville, Mich.) picked up the win, recording a pair of saves in the contest.

Anderson wasted no time jumping out to an early advantage as they were able to tally six goals in the first five minutes of action. Santagata added a seventh in the opening quarter before Catawba turned in their first goal of the afternoon, but Anderson closed out the first 15-minute period with another pair of goals, leading 9-1.

Their advantage bolstered to the necessary 10-goal margin with the first two goals of the second quarter, including a man-down goal from Cannon to kick off the frame. Cannon and Santagata each added a goal while Catawba posted a single goal before the halftime whistle with Anderson leading 13-2.

The Black and Gold were the only team to score in the third quarter as Dobson went on a tear, scoring four of the five goals in the quarter, further boosting the Trojans advantage to 18-2. The final quarter was the most competitive of the match as the Trojans only outscored the Indians by a 3-2 margin, but it was more than enough to secure their 21-4 win.

Anderson returns to action for a weekend doubleheader next weekend as they host Virginia State on Friday, April 5 before turning around the next day and taking on Wingate at home on Saturday, April 6.
