Women’s Tennis Slotted 10th in NCAA Southeast Regional Rankings

INDIANAPOLIS - Stringing together its most wins since the 2013 spring season, Anderson University women's tennis claimed the No. 10 slot in the first of three NCAA Southeast Regional Rankings, announced by the Association on Wednesday.

In the Southeast Region, the tournament champions from the South Atlantic Conference, Peach Belt, and Conference Carolinas will receive an automatic bid, with five more at-large selections. The eight Southeast Region teams that earn a trip to the NCAA Tournament are the most by any region, as 48 teams from across the country move on to the annual postseason tournament.

The Trojans boast a 12-5 overall record for the season, while hanging on to a 6-4 mark within the SAC. AU has claimed victories in three of its last four contests, as it has recorded six 9-0 shutout triumphs for the season.

AU rounded out the poll in the 10th spot, as it was one of five teams from the SAC to earn spots in the weekly poll. Wingate led the way within the league in the sixth position, while Tusculum followed in seventh. Queens fell behind the Pioneers in the eighth slot, while Newberry earned the ninth spot finishing just ahead of the Black and Gold. Anderson closed a stretch of fifth straight SAC teams in the 10th position.

Prior to the streak of SAC members, the Peach Belt Conference captured the top-five spots in the poll with league-leading Armstrong claiming the No. 1 spot. After the Pirates, Columbus State was ranked second, while in-state rival Georgia College grabbed the third spot. Closing out the run of PBC members, Flagler and GRU Augusta rounded out the stretch in fourth and fifth, respectively.

The Trojans close out their road schedule on Thursday when they head to in-state rival, USC Aiken. First serve is set for 2 p.m.
