Men’s & Women’s Tennis Travels to Carson-Newman, Brevard This Week

ANDERSON, S.C. - As Anderson University men's and women's tennis enter the heart of their South Atlantic Conference schedules, the Trojans prepare for a pair of road contests against Carson-Newman on Monday at 3 p.m., followed by a trip to Brevard on Tuesday at 2 p.m.

AU Men's Team Looks to Continue Winning Stretch in the SAC
Despite suffering their first setback in league play this season last week at Tusculum, Anderson carries a 4-1 mark in the conference with a 7-2 overall record. The loss to the Pioneers snapped a four-match winning streak which included three conference victories and one over archrival Erskine.

Sophomore Mateo Rivas and junior Inaki Iriberry continue to lead the Trojans in singles wins on the season, but sophomore Juan Carracedo and freshman Harrison Kansol posted Anderson's lone singles triumphs against TC last week. Carracedo added his sixth win of the season, while Kansol improved to a perfect 5-0 mark while playing at the No. 6 position.

In doubles, Iriberry and classmate Paul Michael Calhoun hold a team-high four wins and, most recently, tallied Anderson's only doubles win against Tusculum.

AU Women's Team Seeks First Win in March
The Trojans have dropped their first two matchups of the month, as they faced a 7-2 setback on March 7 to Tusculum. Overall, Anderson boasts a 6-3 record with a 3-2 mark in the conference, as the loss to the Pioneers was the team's first road defeat of the season.

Leading the Black and Gold in singles wins for the season is sophomore Rebecca Bruning, who is a two-time AstroTurf SAC Player of the Week on the year, as she carries an 8-1 overall record. For the conference, Bruning is a perfect 5-0 in singles, as she was the only AU player to record a singles win against TC, as she knocked off Erin Mills in three sets.

In doubles, the tandem of Mairead Cleary and Lindsay Gregory holds a 6-3 overall record with a 3-2 mark in conference matches.

The Eagles
The Carson-Newman men's squad is seeking its first victory of the season, as it has dropped its first three matches with a contest pending against Brevard on Sunday. C-N is also 0-1 in league play with its most recent result was a 5-4 setback to Mars Hill on March 7.

In doubles, the Eagles are 6-3 as a team, as the tandem of Kevin Mendes and Juan Sebastian Perez is joined by Austin Mackay and Joao Pedro Oliveria post perfect 3-0 records on the year. Despite the winning record in the doubles round, Carson-Newman is 4-14 in singles action.

With a matchup with Brevard set for Sunday, the Eagle women's team is 1-2 for their spring schedule, as they claimed their first win of the season against Mars Hill, 7-2, on March 7. Including matches from its fall season, C-N's doubles team of Patricia Guerreiro and Jennifer Ott holds a perfect 6-0 mark, as the team is 14-4 in doubles contests on the season.

In singles, Guerreiro and Jill Corsato lead the team with four wins apiece, while teammate Catherine Cooke follows with a 3-1 record.

The Tornados
Overall, the men's team is 4-5 for the year, but is still seeking their first conference victory, as it brings a 0-3 mark into Sunday's match with Carson-Newman. After spending its Spring Break in Hilton Head and winning all three of its matches at the beach, Brevard returned to regional play and has dropped its last three contests.

The doubles team of George Finch and Nathan Sabate lead the Tornados with five victories, while Sabate paces the club with six wins in singles playing at the No. 3 position.

On the women's side, BC has dropped its four contests and carries a 1-6 overall record for the spring. With their matchup pending with Carson-Newman on Sunday, the Tornados are 0-3 in the conference with setbacks to Newberry, Wingate and Mars Hill.

As a team, Brevard has totaled five doubles wins on the year, as the duo of Katie Daugherty and Jule Hermann have three of them. Despite the three wins, the pair is 0-2 in the SAC for the year.

In singles, Daughtery is 4-4 for the campaign while playing at the No. 1 position, while teammate Nirvanna Silva follows with three wins for the year.
