Trojans Open Second Season With 19 Goal Win Over Shorter

ANDERSON, S.C. – Sophomore Sophia Santagata (North Port, Fla.) tallied five goals to help lead the Anderson University (1-0) women's lacrosse team to a season opening win in their second season of action as they upended Shorter (0-1) by a 20-1 margin on Saturday, February 3 at Spero Financial Field.

Sophomore Alicia Cannon (Tarzana, Calif.) led the team with six points in the contest as she pitched in a pair of goals and four assists while senior Kelly Coster (Poughquag, N.Y.) was able to add three goals and a pair of assists. Freshman Rayne Dobson (Houston, Texas) added four goals to the scoresheet on the day while freshman Kathryn McCabe (Alpharetta, Ga.) helped the Trojans at the center circle, winning 12 draw controls.

It didn't take long at all for the Trojans to score their first goal of the season as Santagata was able to find the back of the net just under two minutes into the game. She added three more of Anderson's first five goals of the game with Coster pitching in the other to take the 5-0 lead halfway through the first quarter. The Black and Gold were able to tally an additional two goals before Shorter recorded their first and only goal of the day before the Trojans closed out the opening frame with three more goals, taking the 10-1 advantage.

Just over a minute into the second quarter the Trojans were able to get the running clock going on the field as freshman Emery Robson (Marietta, Ga.) buried the 11th goal of the afternoon for Anderson to kick-off the five goal frame for the Trojans to take the 15-1 lead into the halftime break.

The Trojans were able to add five more goals to their tally in the third quarter with Dobson posting half of her goals on the day in the period, which brought the scoring to an end for the day as neither team scored in the fourth quarter, giving the Trojans the 20-1 victory.

Anderson doesn't get to rest long as they welcome in Young Harris to Spero Financial Field on Thursday, February 8 for a 6:00 p.m. first draw.
