Women’s Tennis Claims 7-2 Victory over Carson-Newman

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. - With five victories in singles action, Anderson University women's tennis got back on the winning track with a 7-2 win over Carson-Newman in South Atlantic Conference action on Monday at the Carson-Newman Tennis Complex.

With the victory, the Trojans improve to 7-3 on the season with a 4-2 mark in the conference and snap a two-match setback streak, while the Eagle drop to an even 3-3 overall.

In the doubles round, the Black and Gold captured a pair of matches, as sophomore Rebecca Bruning and freshman Ivey Welborn claimed an 8-4 win over Mallory Jackson and Kill Corsato at the No. 1 position, while Mairead Cleary and Alexandra Ebner notched an identical 8-4 victory over Brooke Sanderson and Sydney Ledington at No. 2.

With a 2-1 lead heading into the singles round, Welborn defeated Jackson 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 1 slot, while Bruning tallied a three-set 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 over Corsato at No. 2. At the No. 4 spot, Ebner tallied a 6-2, 6-1 win over Haleigh Chastain, while Gregory grabbed a 6-4, 6-3 triumph over Brooke Sanderson at the No. 5 position. Closing out the singles round, Nikkola Wichenko tallied a 6-2, 6-1 win over Ledington at No. 6.

Anderson returns to the courts on Tuesday when its travels to Brevard. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
