No. 12 Catawba Escapes Upset In Overtime Thriller; 84-83

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson (17-5, 9-5 SAC) lost an overtime thriller against top-ranked South Atlantic Conference foe No. 12 Catawba (17-3, 12-2 SAC), 84-83, on Saturday afternoon at the Abney Athletic Center.

"I couldn't be more proud of how hard our girls fought today in a great battle," said head coach Jonathon Barbaree. "What a great college basketball game for fans to see!"

"First, I want to say thank you to everyone who attended and helped us raise money for our Annual Play4Kay game," stated Barabaree. "Sadly, statistically 1 out of every 8 females will be affected by breast cancer. Hopefully we made a difference today with the money raised."

"As for the game, I thought we did some great things throughout," explained Barbaree. "We gave up too many offensive rebounds, but we grabbed a few as well. Unfortunately, a few free throws didn't fall but in the end Lyrik hit a big shot for them and that's what big time players do."

Anderson was led by junior Diamond McDowell's game-high 25 points. McDowell also ripped down 12 rebounds to record her 13th double-double of the season. Graduate Brittney Stafford netted 21 points while senior Zamiya Passmore chipped in 15 points and was credited with six assists.

Senior Zamiya Passmore scored a team-high 18 points shooting 6-of-6 from the free throw line. Passmore also added four assists and four rebounds. Junior Diamond McDowell recorded her 12th double-double scoring 17 points and ripping down 12 rebounds. McDowell was also credited with five steals, four blocked shots and three assists. Sophomore Ashlyn Sheridan netted 12 points while graduate Brittney Stafford chipped in 10 rebounds and seven rebounds.

Catawba's Lyrik Thorne and Janiya Downs shared team-high honors scoring 21 points apiece. Thorne and Downs both grabbed seven rebounds for the Indians.

Anderson remains home to host SAC opponent on Wednesday. Tip-off is slated for 5:30pm.
