ANDERSON, S.C. - The Anderson women's tennis team saw its two-match win streak halted with an 8-1 setback to 29th-ranked Queens in South Atlantic Conference action Wednesday afternoon at Max Grubbs Memorial Courts.
Anderson slipped to 6-2 overall on the season and 3-1 in conference action, while the Royals improved to 7-0 overall and 2-0 in the league.
The Royals duo of Carlotta Nassi and Melissa Laing defeated AU's Ivey Welborn and Rebecca Bruning, 8-5, at the No. 1 doubles slot, while Queens' Marta Gonzalez and Caroline Nielson slipped past the Trojan tandem of Mairead Cleary and Lindsay Gregory, 9-8, at No. 2 doubles. Jackie Rock and Claire Hamilton notched the sweep with an 8-4 win over AU's Alexandra Ebner and Abigail Gregory at No. 3.
Nassi topped Welborn in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 1 singles, while Bruning defeated Lang, 7-5, 7-6 at No. 2 singles for the Trojans lone win of the afternoon. Gonzalez edged Cleary, 6-2, 6-4, at the No. 3 spot, with Nielson defeating Ebner, 6-4, 6-0 at No. 4 singles.
Rock got past Lindsay Gregory, 8-6, at No. 5 and Hamilton defeated Abigail Gregory, 8-2, at No. 6 singles to set the final score.
Anderson opens a six-match road swing on Saturday, when the
Trojans visit Tusculum. First-serve in Greeneville, Tenn. is
scheduled for 1 p.m.
