Trojans Earn Sweep Over Barton

ANDERSON, S.C.– Anderson University softball (9-11) earned its first sweep of the season defeating nonconference opponent Barton (9-11) in game one, 8-2, and in the nightcap, 8-4, on Friday at the AU Softball Complex.

Game One

  • Anderson built a, 5-0, lead through three innings of play with Barton scoring its only two runs in the top of the fourth. AU responded in the bottom half with three more runs to set the final score at, 8-2.
  • The Trojans outhit the Bulldogs, 8-3.
  • Seniors Hannah Whitaker and Ava Worthy and freshman Paige Vickery each had two hits apiece. Whitaker doubled, Worthy tripled and Vickery homered. Junior Maddie Carpenter also hit her third home run of the season.
  • Morgen Baker-Celis (3-2) got the nod earning her third win of the season. Baker-Celis gave up just two hits with nine strikeouts. Sophomore Katie Morris (1sv) earned her first career save with the Trojans, pitching three innings. Morris allowed just one hit and struck out three.

 

Game Two

  • The Black and Gold used 10 hits and took advantage of six Bulldog errors to help lift the Trojans to victory.
  • Carpenter and sophomore Shelby Bandt collected two hits apiece.
  • Sophomore Lauren Brakovec hit a three RBI double to help propel AU.
  • Senior Laken Maxwell (5-5) settled in to pitch a complete game win. Maxwell gave up six hits while striking out 13.

Next Up

Anderson will begin conference play when it host Catawba on Sunday. First-pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 1 pm.
