Trojans Power to 13-Point Victory Over Cobras

ANDERSON, S.C. – The town of Anderson lived up to it's name of "The Electric City" tonight as the Anderson University (11-9, 6-6 SAC) men's basketball team provided the Abney Athletic Center crowd with a jolt of energy as they downed Coker (11-9, 7-5 SAC) by a final score of 111-98 on Saturday, February 3.

Junior Austin Webb (South Point, Ohio) led the Trojans with 19 points and 7 rebounds closely followed by senior Garrett Denbow (Ashland, Ohio) with 18. Senior Mack Burgett (Richmond, Virgiana) made a statement tonight, cashing in 17 points, 11 rebounds, and 4 assists to help lead the Trojans to victory. Abney Athletic Center exploded with excitement tonight when sophomore James Repass (Jacksonville, Florida) set the tone for the night in dunks which was followed by Mack Burgett and freshman Dallas Jones (Gainesville, Florida).

The two teams spent the opening minutes of the contest neck and neck as both offenses were only able to land a few shots on the board before the first media timeout with Trojans holding a slight 7-6 advantage. The two teams continued to stay at level ground with the match bouncing back and forth until the Cobras broke away with a seven point lead with two minutes left in the first stretch. The Trojans made up a few points but trailed the Cobras 42-47 going into halftime.

With an 11 point lead after the first two minutes of the second, the Trojans scored with a layup from Mack Burgett who would prove to be a key player later in the game. Anderson was able to cut the advantage down to just two going into another media timeout. The Trojans were able to quickly tie the contest up again shortly after the timeout at the 15:29 mark the score was back to 55-55.

The Trojans began to pull away slightly with a six point advantage thanks to a jumper from James Repass and an incredible dunk from Cole Middleton. The Cobras tied it up again 69-69 with ten minutes left in the game.

Not going away quietly, the Trojans began to slowly chip into their lead, with just under five minutes to play. They led 92-86 after the last media timeout and continued to hold the lead through the final buzzer. The final dunk from Dallas Jones with eleven seconds on the clock would lock in the Trojan's win, 111-98.

Anderson returns to action on Wednesday, February 7 as they travel to Lenoir-Rhyne for a 7:30 p.m. first tip.
