COLUMBIA, S.C. - In its first road contest of the season, Anderson University women's tennis cruised to a 9-0 victory over Columbia College Thursday afternoon at the Cayce Tennis Center.

With the victory, the Trojans improve to a perfect 2-0 on the young season, marking the first two-match winning streak to open a season in program history. With the setback, the Fighting Koalas dropped their season opener.

Anderson started quickly, as the visitors swept through the doubles round with three straight victories. At the No. 1 spot, Lindsay Gregory and Mairead Cleary knocked off Columbia's Erin Green and Mara Reiss, 8-2, while last week's AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week, Rebecca Bruning paired up with Alexander Ebner to defeat Ashley Latham and Lydia Royals, 8-1, at No. 2. Newcomers Abigail Gregory and Carolina Lima rounded out the doubles round with an 8-2 win over Sanja Pantelic and Michelle Troup at the No. 3 position.

The Black and Gold continued their winning ways in the singles round, as Bruning posted a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Green at No. 1, while Clearly knocked off Latham, 6-1, 6-3, at No. 2. At No. 3, Ebner blanked Reiss, 6-0, 6-0, as Lindsay Gregory tallied a win at the No. 4 slot over Royals, 6-2, 6-2. Rounding out the singles round, Abigail Gregory shutout Pantelic, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5, while junior Nikkola Wichenko recorded a 6-3, 6-0 win over Troup at the No. 6 spot.

Anderson looks to remain perfect on the season as it travels to regional opponent Belmont Abbey on Saturday. The first serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
