Gritty Fourth Quarter Play Lifts Trojans Over Bulldogs; 62-59

ANDERSON, S.C. – Anderson women's basketball (12-3, 4-3 SAC) secured a huge home win over top-tier Wingate (11-5, 6-2 SAC), 62-59, in a matchup that never seems to disappoint on Wednesday evening at the Abney Athletic Center.

"Just another epic battle between Anderson and Wingate," said head coach Jonathon Barbaree.

"Really proud of the ladies in that they showed me some grittiness that I've thought we've been missing, especially after our rough second quarter," stated Barbaree. "We definitely had some balls bounce our way at the right time, but credit still goes to the team for making use of those moments."

"I also really want give a shout out to the Trojan Army who were on their feet leading the charge in the fourth quarter," added Barbaree. "We will enjoy this one tonight but start preparing for the next one tomorrow."

Anderson jumped out to an early first quarter lead, 20-10, but a cold second quarter helped the Bulldogs even the score at 25 by outscoring AU, 15-5. Wingate also won the third quarter, 16-11.

The Bulldogs held at least a 2-to-5 point advantage the majority of the fourth quarter with Anderson taking its final lead on a made layup by Nelliah Wislon, 60-59, with 14 seconds left. Wilson was fouled on the play, but missed the foul shot. AU's Diamond McDowell chased down the rebound kicking it out to Zamiya Passmore. Wingate fouled Passmore which step to the line and drained both to put the Trojans up by three points. Wingate's final three-point attempt was blocked by McDowell to help secure the home victory.

Senior Nelliah Wilson recorded her sixth double-double of the year scoring 21 points and rippling down 12 rebounds. Wilson also recorded four blocked shots for the third time this season. Junior Diamond McDowell was just one rebound shy of a double-double netted 12 points and hauling in nine rebounds. Graduate Brittney Stafford and senior Zamiya Passmore also chipped in 12 points with Passmore dishing out five assists and recording three steals for the Black and Gold.

Wingate placed three players in double-digit scoring with Hannah Clark scoring a game-high 23 points.

Anderson remains at home to host SAC opponent Emory & Henry. Tip-off is slated for 2 pm.
