Women’s Tennis Closes Regular Season with Erskine on Monday

ANDERSON, S.C. - Looking to capture its fourth straight win to close out the regular season, Anderson University women's tennis hosts archrival Erskine in the team's final home contest of the season on Monday. First serve from Max Grubbs Memorial Courts is scheduled for 3 p.m.

The Trojans
AU finished a perfect 3-0 last week with wins over Emmanuel (9-0), Lenoir-Rhyne (5-4) and USC Aiken (5-3) and set its current overall record at 14-5 on the season, marking the most regular-season wins by the program in the South Atlantic Conference era. Within the conference, the Trojans ended their league schedule with a 7-4 record.

Continuing to lead the team in singles victories is sophomore Rebecca Bruning with 16 on the season, as she boasts a 16-2 overall record with a 10-1 mark in the league. Bruning is 9-1 in her last 10 singles matches, including capturing wins in her last five matches. Joining Bruning with double-figure singles wins is senior Lindsay Gregory (13-5) and junior Alexandra Ebner (10-7).

In doubles, Bruning and freshman Ivey Welborn hold a 12-4 overall record with a 7-3 mark in the conference. The tandem is 8-2 in their last 10 matches, as they are key contributors in AU's 40 doubles victories this season.

The Flying Fleet
Erskine has dropped five of its last six matches, as it enters Monday's contest with a 7-10 overall record with all seven of its wins coming in Conference Carolinas. Most recently, the Flying Fleet dropped a 5-4 decision to Mount Olive, as Monday's match with AU will be the third leg in a four-match road trip.

Leading the team in singles wins is Miranda Guthrie with 11 on the season with seven coming at the No. 3 position. Guthrie has captured her last two singles matches, but is an even 5-5 in her last 10 matches. Mika Goyette follows with 10 singles triumphs on the year with nine coming at the No. 2 slot.

For the doubles round, the team of Guthrie and Sarah McDonald is a perfect 5-0 when playing at the No. 2 slot. The duo trails the pair of Goyette and Mikaela Bennett who holds a team-high six doubles wins for the campaign.

The Series
Anderson seeks its first win over Erskine since making the move to the SAC prior to the 2011 spring season. Last season, the Fleet captured a 7-2 win in Due West, as Anderson managed just two singles wins for the day.
