Trojans Drop Overtime Heartbreaker to No. 14 Bearcats

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Anderson's men's lacrosse team dropped its contest on Saturday against No. 14 Lander in heartbreak, sudden-death fashion. After a five-goal comeback in the final twelve minutes of the game to force overtime, Lander scored the golden goal to come out on top, 13-12.

"Tough loss," said head coach Albert Mitchell, "but I'm very proud of the fight to get back in it."

AU jumped off to an early lead with Matthew Rodgers (Carmel, Ind.) scoring his first two of six goals on the afternoon in the first three minutes of the game. Lander answered, outscoring the Trojans by 2 in Q2 to take a 6-5 lead into halftime.

The Bearcats picked up three quick goals to open the third quarter, increasing Anderson's deficit to four, before the Black and Gold began their near-perfect comeback. Goals from PJ Fenchak (Lutherville Timonium, Md.), Brayden Bushnoe (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) and Radyn Badraun (Mission Viejo, Calif.) combined with Rodgers' fourth-quarter hat-trick put Anderson even with Lander as the clock ticked down to zero.

Their first overtime game of the season saw the Trojans unable to hold on, with Lander scoring in the final two minutes of OT for a 13-12 Bearcat victory.

The Trojans conclude their four-game home stint this Tuesday (March 19) against South Atlantic Conference opponent, Tusculum at 7:00 PM.
