Bruning, Welborn Ranked Regionally in ITA Rankings

SKILLMAN, N.J. - After one of its most successful seasons in program history, Anderson University women's tennis landed ninth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southeast Regional Rankings, while standouts Rebecca Bruning and Ivey Welborn were slotted fifth in the doubles rankings, announced by the ITA on Wednesday.

With the season ending two weeks ago, the Trojans closed their 2015 campaign with a 15-6 overall record and a 7-4 conference mark. During the postseason, AU capped off its win column with a narrow 5-4 upset victory in the opening round of the South Atlantic Conference Tournament over fourth-seeded Newberry on April 16. Despite the triumph, the Trojans saw their season come to close the next day with a setback to top-seeded and eventual tournament champion, Wingate.

Bruning and Welborn closed their first season together as a doubles pair with a 13-5 overall record, including a 7-3 mark against league opponents. Prior to the start of the SAC Tournament, the tandem was named to the SAC First Team Doubles list, becoming the first doubles team in program history to earn first-team honors in the SAC era.

Individually, Bruning was named to the all-conference singles first team, while Welborn claimed a spot on the second team singles list.
