GREENEVILLE, TENN. – Anderson men's tennis (5-5, 1-4 SAC) fell short by a 6-1 final score Sunday afternoon on the road. The loss came against SAC foe Tusculum (10-3, 3-0 SAC), who defeated the Trojans for the third consecutive year.
The contest began with a trio of hotly-contested doubles matches, which the Pioneers claimed all three of. AU's No. 2 team of Patrick Cronin and Vicent Mico dropped their match in a tiebreak following the doubles point being clinched.
Tusculum was able to put two more points up in singles to build a 3-0 lead. Trojan freshman Vicent Mico then struck with a 7-6(3), 6-4 win at the No. 1 spot, putting the Black and Gold on the board.
However, the success was short-lived. Tusculum claimed straight-set wins at No. 2 and No. 6, stretching the lead to 5-1 and clinching the team match.
Following the match being decided, AU junior Mathis Collignon was able to come back and push his match to a deciding third set super tiebreaker. Unfortunately, Tusculum was victorious in the tiebreaker, 10-7, to conclude the match.
