Denbow Nets 30 As Trojans Fall to Wingate in SAC Quarterfinals

ROCK HILL, S.C. - Senior Garrett Denbow (Ashland, Ohio) posted a game-high 30 points while senior Mack Burgett (Richmond, Va.) corralled a game-high 13 rebounds, but the Anderson University (15-14) men's basketball team couldn't overcome a late deficit as they dropped a 79-68 decision to Wingate (22-7) in the South Atlantic Conference quarterfinals on Tuesday, March 5.

Eight different Trojans added points to the team total on the night, but only Denbow was able to eclipse the double digit mark in the scoring column. Freshman AJ Wright Jr. (Tampa, Fla.) added to the list of game-high marks posted by the Trojans as he was able to dish out seven assists.

Anderson held an early lead in the contest, holding a slight 6-4 advantage over the Bulldogs at the first stoppage of the contest. But by the next timeout the Bulldogs had swung the lead into their favor by a three point margin. Anderson continued to fight as they were able to keep the deficit to five and eight points at the next to stoppages and were able to bring the Bulldogs lead down to seven heading into the break with the score sitting at 35-28.

Anderson continued their trend of cutting deficits in the second half as though the Bulldogs were able to balloon their lead to 12 at one point, the Trojans were able to shrink it to just two points halfway through the period. However, costly fouls down the stretch and impeccable free-throw shooting by the Bulldogs proved to be too much as Anderson fell by a 79-68 final.

Earlier this week Denbow was named to Second-Team All-Conference while Wright earn All-Freshman team honors. The Trojans wrapped up the season with a 15-14 record and finished seventh in the conference with a 10-10 league record.
