Big Sixth Inning Snaps Trojans Seven Game Skid

ANDERSON, S.C. – Hosting their final contest before a six-game road stint, the Anderson University (12-14) used a big six-run sixth inning to push past the Warriors of Southern Wesleyan (5-23) on Tuesday, March 19 at Anderson Memorial Stadium, snapping a seven game skid.

Sophomore Gray Wells (Chapin, S.C.) led the Trojans on the day, going a perfect 3-for-3 from the dish while driving in four RBIs. Junior Luke Poole (Greenwood, S.C.) added a pair of RBIs to the Trojans tally on just one hit. Senior Carlos Hernandez (Maracay, Venezuela), freshman Carson Molinaroli (Summerville, S.C.) and senior JC LeGrand (Lugoff, S.C.) each tallied a trio of hits in the contest along with sophomore Mac Ketchin (Mount Pleasant, S.C.). Anderson used seven pitchers in the contest with senior Graham Brown (Harrisburg, N.C.) picking up a save while the win was recorded by freshman Corben Childers (Spartanburg, S.C.).

Southern Wesleyan posted a pair of runs in the first inning to take an early lead but the Trojans were able to respond in the bottom half of the frame with a run of their own to close the gap. However, the Warriors re-extended their advantage, this time out to three with another pair of runs in the second inning. Again though, Anderson was able to close the gap to just one run with a single run in each of the third and fourth innings, trailing 4-3 after four.

Each team added a run in the fifth while SWU was able to post two more in the top half of the sixth to further increase their lead back to three at 7-4. But that was when the Trojans offense opened to the fullest, posting six runs on the board in the bottom half of the inning. That six run inning was highlighted by a bases clearing three-run triple by Wells that proved to be the game-winning hit as the Trojans would not yield the lead again the rest of the way, securing the 11-8 win.

Anderson returns to action this weekend for a conference series with Limestone starting on Friday, March 22 at 5:00 p.m.
