Trojans Wrap Up Conference Regular Season With Doubleheader Sweep of UVA Wise on Senior Day

ANDERSON, S.C. -- After honoring 21 seniors and graduates before the contest, the Anderson University (23-24, 12-18 SAC) baseball team sent them out on a high note as they picked up a doubleheader sweep of UVA Wise (12-38, 8-22 SAC) on Saturday, April 27 to sweep the series by scores of 5-3 and 3-2.

Senior Kye Andress (Hendersonville, N.C.) knocked in a pair of runs in the opening contest as well as senior JC LeGrand (Lugoff, S.C.) adding an RBI to his day in the opener. Sophomore Mac Ketchin (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) matched Andress' performance in the opener with a pair of RBIs while freshman Carson Molinaroli (Summerville, S.C.) tallied one as well. In the late game it was seniors Carlos Hernandez (Maracay, Venezuela) and Luke Poole (Greenwood, S.C.) who recorded RBIs to help the Trojans secure the victory. Freshman Corben Childers (Spartanburg, S.C.) and senior Ryan Brash (Aiken, S.C.) picked up the wins on the mound.

GAME ONE: Anderson 5, UVA Wise 3

The pitchers for both teams were working in the first three innings of the opening contest of the day as neither of them allowed a run over that stretch. However, in the fourth inning both teams were able to break that deadlock as the Cavaliers struck first in the top of the frame before the Trojans answered with a run of their own in the bottom half off a Molinaroli sacrifice-fly to pull the game even at one.

UVA Wise was able to add a pair in the top of the sixth inning, but against Anderson had an answer in the bottom of the frame as they were able to plate two runs as well with RBI hits by LeGrand and Ketchin that brough the game back even, this time at three a piece. The Trojans rallied in the bottom of the seven with some lat game heroics by Andress who was able to bring around a pair of runs with a two-RBI triple that gave the Trojans their final margin of 5-3 and secured the win.

GAME TWO: Anderson 3, UVA Wise 2

The second game started in a similar fashion with the first two innings going quiet on both sides of the scoreboard. This time however, it was the Black and Gold that were able to strike first as they posted a single run in the bottom of the third due to a defensive miscue by the Cavaliers to give the Trojans the 1-0 lead. That lead was short lived as the Cavaliers were able to take over the advantage in the top of the fourth with a pair of runs.

Hernandez was able to bring the score back level in the bottom of the fifth with a sacrifice fly and the Trojans would wrap up their win as after working to load the bases with two outs on the board, Poole stood in the box and took a pitch to the side that brought around the final run of the day, giving Anderson the 3-2 win.

The Trojans wrap up their season on Tuesday, April 30 as they travel to take on Mars Hill in a non-conference matchup at 2:00 p.m.
