Trojans Survive Offensive Onslaught, Take Down Palm Beach Atlantic 23-17

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- Freshman Rayne Dobson (Houston, Texas) and freshman Ava Skeffington (Charlotte, N.C.) each tallied seven goals in the contest for the Anderson University (6-1) women's lacrosse team as they were able to upend the Sailfish of Palm Beach Atlantic (2-4) by a 23-17 margin on the road on Saturday, March 9.

Dobson was able to record her seven goals on just nine shots while Skeffington tallied her marks on 13 tries, while adding an assist. Sophomore Alicia Cannon (Tarzana, Calif.) lived up to her #10 jersey as she was a dime machine during the contest, tallying six assists. Freshman Kathryn McCabe (Alpharetta, Ga.) kept the ball in the Trojans hands as she alone hauled in more draw controls than the Sailfish with 18. PBA only recorded 16 in the contest. Anderson was 50% on free-position attempts on the day while they posted a 16-for-18 clip in clears.

The game looked like it might slip away from the Black and Gold in the early goings as they were outscored by an 8-3 margin in the opening quarter of action as Skeffington, sophomore Sophia Santagata (North Point, Fla.) and freshman Jillian LaBelle (Fleming Island, Fla.) were each able to put a goal past the keeper in the frame. It was the second quarter where the Trojans were able to outscore the Sailfish by an 11-3 clip in the second 15-minutes of action on the back of four goals from Skeffington, a trio from Santagata and a pair from Dobson. With the offensive outburst in the second, Anderson carried the 14-11 lead into the hafltime break.

The Trojans continued to outscore PBA in the remaining two quarters as well as they were able to better them 6-5 in the third and 3-1 in the fourth. Though sophomore Ava Drath (Hudsonville, Mich.) started the game for the Trojans between the pipes, recording four saves, it was junior Kora Turner (Myakka City, Fla.) who picked up the win in the cage for the Trojans, tallying five saves and allowing just six goals in the second half of action.

Anderson returns home and returns to conference action on Wednesday, March 13 as they play host to Lincoln Memorial at Spero Financial Field. That contest is set for a 4:00 p.m. first draw.
