Trojans Wrap Up First Conference Sweep of Season With 8-4 Win Over Limestone

GAFFNEY, S.C. – Senior Kye Andress (Hendersonville, N.C.) notched a three-RBI triple in the top of the seventh inning to boost the Anderson University (15-14, 7-11 SAC) baseball team to their first conference sweep of the season with an 8-4 win over Limestone (16-16, 8-10 SAC) on Monday, March 25.

Andress was 2-for-5 at the dish in the contest while recording a trio of RBIs on that game-winning triple. Senior Carlos Hernandez (Maracay, Venezuela), sophomore Gray Wells (Chapin, S.C.) and junior Luke Poole (Greenwood, S.C.) were each able to tally an RBI in the contest as well. Graduate Trey Princiotto (Horseheads, N.Y.) picked up the win in relief as he was able to toss four innings allowing just one run while fanning a pair. Senior Graham Brown (Harrisburg, N.C.) notched the save in the game.

Anderson carried their momentum from yesterday's contest into the final game of the series as they were able to plate a trio of runs in the top of the first, off a pair of singles by Hernandez and Poole and a passed ball by the Saints catcher to take the 3-0 lead. Limestone was able to match that effort in the bottom of the second inning to even up the score, which is where the two teams would stay deadlocked until the seventh inning.

A pair of walks and a single by sophomore Mac Ketchin (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) loaded up the bases for the Trojans in the top of the seventh. That's when Andress blasted a shot down the left field line that cleared the bases and left him just 90 feet away from returning home. He did just that on a wild pitch to lift the Trojans lead up the 7-3. The Saints were able to plate a run in the bottom of the eighth, but Anderson responded in the top of the ninth with a single run of their own, wrapping up the 8-4 win for the Black and Gold.

Anderson now hits the road for a weekend trip to Bluefield State for a three-game series starting with a doubleheader on Friday, March 29.
