Trojans Wrap Up Regular Season With Sixth-Place Showing at Lady Moc Classic 2.0

LAKELAND, Fla. – Wrapping up their final regular season competition, the Anderson University women's golf team turned in a sixth-place showing in the Lady Moc Classic 2.0 in a stacked national field at The Club at Eaglebrooke on April 1-2.

"This was a really tough week. We were just not anywhere close to our best," said director of golf Denton Moore. "We have really been struggling with the putter, and that goes for everyone. We've had over 40 three-putts over our last two events. We just have to clean that up as we are ball striking better than we have all season."

"I will say I'm proud of the way we played today. The conditions were easily the hardest and windiest of the season, and we struck the ball well, we just fell short this week. Austin and I have some creative ways coming up this week in practice to help as we turn our focus to the SAC Championship."

Senior Jessica Rathbone (Montpelier, Va.) and junior Kennedy McGaha (Honea Path, S.C.) each turned in a 20th place finish on the leaderboard this week, turning in an event total of +6.

"I through Jess and KMac were both really solid this week, with both finished top-20 and are use to competing in major events like this." Sophomore Aly Francis (Stockbridge, Ga.) and sophomore Paige Paolucci (Blythewood, S.C.), who competed as an individual, were each able to post a +9 for the tournament, taking home 28th place finishes.

"Aly was massive today as we tried to climb back up the leaderboard with a huge even par round that started off really poor, she gave it everything she had. Really proud of Paige as well, she was awesome in the last two rounds this week with a 71-75 finish."

Freshman Yvette Gorden (Montgomery, Ala.), the other individual for the Trojans on the week finished +12 of the week to finish 37th while sophomore Kennedy Gooding (Lexington, S.C.) finished just a stroke behind her in a tie for 48th place. Junior Zoey Iglesias (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) rounded out the week in a tie for 64th.

"Yvette really opened up the event well with her first under par round of 67. She has had a great freshman year that I know is going to pay off huge in years to come. KG and Zoey were both playing through sickness this week. KG was fantastic on the first day but just ran out of gas today. Zoey came through clutch for us today, especially down the stretch."

"Overall, this is not the week we wanted, but we were able to get knocked down and get back up again, coming back strong today. We are going to need that attitude for the postseason which starts now! Austin and I can't wait for the postseason, and we hope to be in Orlando when the time comes for the national championship. Time for some rest, and then we start our SAC Championship prep. Go Trojans!"

Anderson will have two weeks off rest before heading to Salisbury, N.C. for the SAC Championships on April 14-16 at the Country Club of Salisbury.
