Trojans Celebrate Senior Day With Sweep Over Coker

ANDERSON, S.C. – Senior Laken Maxwell continued her dominate pitching earning two wins on the day highlighted by a one-hit 15 strikeout performance in game one, 5-0, and earning a second win, 6-5, pitching the final 1.2 innings to help Anderson (27-13, 16-2 SAC) defeat South Atlantic Conference opponent Coker (11-30, 4-18 SAC) on Saturday afternoon at the AU Softball Complex.

Game One

  • The Trojans outhit the Cobras, 6-1.
  • Anderson scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Both sophomore Carson Hobbs and junior Maddie Carpenter drove in an RBI apiece while sophomore Jenna Davis's infield single scored the first run of the inning/game. The Trojans added two more runs in the sixth inning to set the final score at, 5-0.
  • Sophomore Shelby Bandt and freshman LuLu Luedtke each went 1-for-2.
  • Senior Laken Maxwell (15-6) tossed a one-hit shutout while striking out 15.

 

Game Two

  • Coker outhit AU, 9-7, with the Cobras committing two miscues.
  • The Black and Gold scored five runs in the bottom of the second. Coker answered back with a three-run home run in the fourth and a two-run shot in the sixth inning to tie the game.
  • Luedtke led the bottom of the seventh off with a single and two base error to give the Trojans a runner on third with no outs. Carpenter stepped to the plate and hit a rope to right center field to score pinch runner Kinsley Dunn to walk-off the Trojans.
  • Carpenter, Luedtke and Bandt each collected two hits apiece for the Black and Gold.
  • Vickery hit her ninth home run of the season while Carpenter hit her eighth. AU have hit 44 team home runs.
  • AU's pitching staff collectively helped defeat the Cobras. Graduate Morgen Baker-Celis got the nod and pitched three innings. Hobbs pitched 2.1 innings while Maxwell (16-6) earned the win after pitching the final 1.2 innings. Maxwell gave up no hits while striking out four batters. 

Next Up

Anderson will travel to SAC leader Wingate on Monday. First-pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 1 pm.
