Softball Splits With Georgia College and State University

 

ANDERSON, S.C.– Anderson University softball (7-11) split its doubleheader contest with Georgia College and State University (11-7) winning game one, 7-3, while dropping the nightcap, 6-0, on Tuesday afternoon at the AU Softball Complex.

 Game One

  • AU's bats were alive early, scoring 5-of-7 runs in the first three innings of play.
  • Junior Maddie Carpenter went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a home run while freshman Paige Vickery and sophomore Lauren Brakovec batted 2-for-3 with Brakovec hitting her first her fourth career home run and first of the season.
  • Senior Laken Maxwell (4-5) got the nod pitching a complete game. Maxwell scattered seven hits while striking out 10.

Game Two

  • GCSU capitalized on three Black and Gold errors and 12 Bobcat hits to score 10 runs.
  • Brakovec stayed hot recording two of the four Trojan hits. Senior Hannah Whitaker went 1-for-2 blasting her sixth home run of the season.
  • Graduate Morgen Baker-Celis (2-3) suffered the loss giving up six hits and five runs in 3.0 innings pitched. Senior Lane Edgington and freshman Katie Morris combined for the final four innings each giving up three hits apiece.

Next Up

Anderson will begin conference play when it travels to Mars Hill on Friday. First-pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 11 am.
