Trojans Pick Up Mid-Week Win Over Nighthawks, 13-7

DAHLONEGA, Ga. -- Heading to take on North Georgia (25-12) for the second time on the road this season, the Anderson University (18-19) baseball team was able to come away with a win in the midweek contest as they downed the Nighthawks by a score of 13-7.

Senior Carlos Hernandez (Maracay, Venezuela) and junior Welsey Mann (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) were each able to tally a trio of RBIs in the contest to lead the Black and Gold on the day. Junior Luke Poole (Greenwood, S.C.) and freshman Carson Molinaroli (Summerville, S.C.) both added a pair of RBIs to the team's tally as well. Senior Corey Loggins (Walhalla, S.C.) picked up the win in relief on the mound whlie senior Ryan Bash (Aiken, S.C.) recorded the save.

The Trojans took the early advantage in the contest as they were able to post a pair of runs in the opening frame off a hard ground out and a defensive miscue to take the 2-0 lead. However, from there the next four innings of action were all Nighthawks as they score one run in the second and a pair of runs in each of the third and fifth innings to swing the lead to 6-2.

Anderson was not backing down in the game as they were able to bring it back to within one with three runs in the top of the sixth of a double by Poole and a two-run bomb by Mann. A solo shot off the bat of sophomore Mac Ketchin (Mount Pleasant, S.C.) would tie up the contest in the top of the seventh and the Trojans added three more runs to their tally to retake the lead at 9-6.

North Georgia was able to scratch across a single run in the bottom of the seventh, but with the Black and Gold adding four more runs to their score line in the top of the ninth they were able to put it out of reach and secure the 13-7 win.

Anderson returns home this weekend for a conference series with Catawba kicking off with a single game on Friday, April 12 at 6:00 p.m.
