Trojans Drop First Game In Extra Innings, Bounce Back In Game Two

ANDERSON, S.C.– Anderson University softball (5-9) split its doubleheader contest with USC Aiken (7-3) dropping game one in extra innings, 2-1, while winning the nightcap, 6-5, on Saturday afternoon at the AU Softball Complex.

Game One

  • USC Aiken scored first in the second inning with AU knotting up the game with a lone run in the third inning.
  • Senior Hannah Whitaker drove in AU's run while senior Ava Worthy recorded another double on the year.
  • Senior Laken Maxwell (2-5) and the Pacers Payton Baker battled hard inside the circle with each giving up just three hits for the game. Baker struck out 10 batters while Maxwell sat down eight. Maxwell needs three more strikeouts to become AU's all-time career strikeout leader.

  • The Trojans out hit the Jaguars, 12-6.

  • Graduate Morgen Baker-Celis (2-2) went the distance giving up six hits and striking out five.

Anderson will travel to nonconference opponent UNC Pembroke on Monday. First-pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 1 pm.
