Brakovec’s Bombs Help Trojans Earn Split With No. 10 Wingate

 

ANDERSON, S.C.- Sophomore Lauren Brakovec drilled two home runs including a grand slam to help the Trojans (28-14, 17-3 SAC) earn a split with South Atlantic Conference leader Wingate using the five RBI to help defeat the Bulldogs in game two, 8-2, after falling to Wingate (42-7, 20-2 SAC), 6-3, in game one on Monday afternoon at the Wingate Softball Complex.

Game One

  • Anderson struck first in the top of the third with two runs while Wingate answered right back in the bottom half of the third with three-runs of their own.
  • Anderson scored a lone run in the fifth inning to tie the score at three apiece. However, the Bulldogs struck right back with their version of a lone run in the bottom of the fifth to go ahead, 4-3. Wingate tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth to set the final score, 6-3.
  • AU's Jenna Davis and Ava Worthy collected two hits apiece combining for four of the six Black and Gold Hits.
  • The Trojans left nine runners on base.
  • Wingate's Savannah Brooks extended her SAC season home run lead, hitting two long balls to help lead WU to its victory.
  • Maxwell (16-7) was tagged with the loss facing one of the strongest hitting team in the conference. Maxwell pitch 6.0 innings giving up three home runs while striking out 13.

Game Two

  • Anderson out hit Wingate, 11-8.
  • Sophomore Lauren Brakovec hit a solo home run to give Anderson the early lead,1-0, in the top of the second. However, WU's Brooks hit her third home run of the day scoring two runs to take over the lead, 2-1.
  • Senior Hannah Whitaker singled to start the top of the fourth followed by Paige Vickery's base on balls and Ava Worthy's infield single. Maggie Nauck's single to center field scored Whitaker to tie the game, 2-2. Brakovec blasted her fourth home run of the season and first grand slam to blow the game wide open.
  • At the plate, Worthy went 3-for-4 while Carson Hobbs batted 2-for-3.
  • Hobbs got the nod in game two pitching 4.0 innings, giving up two runs while striking out two. Graduate Morgen Baker-Celis pitched the final 3 innings, giving up no runs while striking out two.

 

Next Up

Anderson will travel to SAC opponent Mars Hill on Thursday. First-pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 1 pm.
