ANDERSON, S.C. - Despite perfect performances from sophomore Rebecca Bruning and freshman Ivey Welborn, Anderson University women's tennis dropped a South Atlantic Conference match to No. 49 Wingate, 6-3, Wednesday afternoon at the Max Grubbs Memorial Courts.

With the setback, the Trojans fall to 11-5 on the season with a 6-4 record in conference contests, while the Bulldogs remain perfect in SAC action with a 9-0 record, as they improve their overall mark to 11-4.

The doubles pair of Bruning and Welborn opened up the match with an 8-3 win over Wingate tandem of Andra Ternera and Becca Thomas at the No. 1 positon for their 10th doubles victory of the season. Despite the win, the Black and Gold failed to post another doubles win, as the 'Dogs took a 2-1 advantage in the singles portion.

Bruning and Welborn continued their winning ways in the singles round, as Welborn notched a 6-3, 7-5 triumph over Ternera at the No. 1 slot, while Bruning followed with a three-set 4-6, 6-4, 7-5 win over Caroline Holland at the No. 2 position.

The wins by the tandem were the only singles points the Trojans could manage, as Wingate captured four of the six singles matches for the day to seal the team victory.

Anderson returns to action on Tuesday when it jumps back into its nonconference schedule with a meeting with Emmanuel. First serve from Franklin Springs, Ga. is scheduled for 2 p.m.
