Trojans Track and Field Posts High Marks at Clemson Invitational

COMPLETE RESULTS

CLEMSON, S.C. – Taking to competition for the first time in the 2024 calendar year, the Anderson University men’s and women’s track and field teams turned in multiple top-10 finishes in a field of mostly Division I athletes as they took part in the Clemson Invitational over the past weekend.

RESULT HIGHLIGHTS

  • Sophomore Emma Whitaker (Inman, S.C.) took a 15th place finish in the women’s 800m race with a time of 2:21.45.

  • She also posted the highest finish on the women’s side with a sixth-place finish in the women’s 1000m with a time of 3:07.56.

  • Sophomore Georgia Piper (Dacula, Ga.) turned in a 10th place finish in the women’s high jump with a mark of 1.55m.

  • Sophomore Kirsten Leonard (Hoover, Ala.) and freshman Jorja Fox (Easley, S.C.) took home 12th and 13th place finishes in the women’s pole vault, respectively, with marks of 3.00m and 2.85m.

  • Freshman Cullen Ussery (Kershaw, S.C.) turned in a 15th place finish in the men’s 200m with a time of 22.90.

  • Sophomore Adam Trusty (Greer, S.C.) took two top-15 finishes on the weekend picking up a 12th place finish in the 800m (1:56.88) and a 13th place finish in the mile (4:26.26). His 800 time was a collegiate best for him while his mile time was his season best performance.

  • Sophomore Elliot Dotson (Greenville, S.C.) and senior Daniel Similton (Indian Trail, N.C.) took home 11th and 13th places in the 3000m with Dotson running the event in 8:36.45 while Similton crossed the line at 8:40.12.

  • The field events were highlighted on the men’s side with the Trojans taking 8-11 in the men’s pole vault. Sophomore Tyler Farris (Jefferson, Ga.), sophomore Lucas Pryor (Greer, S.C.), sophomore Will O’Cain (Columbia, S.C.) and sophomore Lambdin Hardy (Commerce, Ga.) finishing in that order. Farris and Pryor eclipsed 4.25m while O’Cain and Hardy cleared 4.10m.

  • Junior Simeon Respress (Cornelia, Ga.) turned in a 12th place finish for the Trojans as he leaped 6.77m in the men’s long jump. 

  • Freshman Jordan Gross (Chester, Va.) earned a ninth-place finish in the men’s triple jump with a mark of 13.41m.

The Trojans return to competition at the end of the month as they make the trip up to the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C. on January 26-27 for the Camel City Invitational.
