Trojans Down Lions 87-65 in Penultimate Regular Season Contest

ANDERSON, S.C. – Senior Garrett Denbow (Ashland, Ohio) and sophomore Luke Denbow (Ashland, Ohio) combined for 47-points as the Anderson University (15-12, 10-9 SAC) men's basketball team took down Mars Hill (3-23, 2-17 SAC) in the Abney Athletic Center on Wednesday, February 28 by a score of 87-65.

Garrett Denbow was able to record 30 points in the contest, with 15 of those points coming from beyond the three-point arc.  Similarly to his brother, Luke Denbow hit three of his six field goals from long range to record 17 points in the game. Sophomore Cole Middleton (Atlanta, Ga.) and junior Austin Webb (South Point, Ohio) corralled nine and eight boards, respectively, to lead the squad on the night while Middleton added five dimes to sit second on the team behind freshman AJ Wright Jr. (Tampa, Fla.) who posted seven in the contest.

The Trojans wasted no time in the game as they were able to jump out to an early 7-0 lead that was nearly the same margin when the first media timeout came around, with Anderson still holding the advantage at 10-5. By the next timeout the Trojans had pushed their lead into the double digits and held the 22-10 lead over the Lions, who struggled offensively throughout the night. The lead ballooned up to 19 by the next stoppage with the Trojans outscoring the Lions by a 15-8 margin over that stretch. Over the final few minutes of the opening stanza, Mars Hill was able to bring that margin down by one point, but Anderson would take the 43-25 lead into the halftime break.

The second half was more of the same as Anderson built their lead back out to 20 by the 16:00 minute mark in the stanza and continued to hold that same lead with just over 12 minutes to play as well. The Trojans continued to hover around that mark with the lead for the remainder of the half, never dropping below double digits and increasing to as many as 24 points. Anderson was able to clear the bench late in the game and tacked on two more points late in the game to take the 87-65 win over the Lions.

The Trojans return to action on Saturday, March 2 as they host the Pioneers of Tusculum University in their final regular season contest of the year. Before the 4:00 p.m. tip-off the seniors of the program will be recognized.
