Trojans Swat Wasps in Conference Action, 23-3

ANDERSON, S.C. – Returning home after their first road game of the year, and taking on their second straight conference opponent, the Anderson University (4-0, 2-0 SAC) women's lacrosse team turned in 23-3 win over the Wasps of Emory & Henry (0-5, 0-1 SAC) on Saturday, February 24 at Spero Financial Field.

Sophomore Alicia Cannon (Tarzana, Calif.) led the Trojans on the day in multiple categories, including goals (5), assists (3), points (8) and draw controls (11). Freshman Rayne Dobson (Houston, Texas) was perfect on shots on the day, adding four goals to the Trojans tally in the contest. Freshmen Jillian LaBelle (Fleming Island, Fla.) and Ava Skeffington (Charlotte, N.C.) each posted a trio of goals in the game while freshman Jerianne Morris (New Port Richey, Fla.) turned in a pair to complete the slate of multi-goal scorers.

Sophomore Ava Drath (Hudsonville, Mich.) posted her fourth win of the year between the pipes, making two saves in 15 minutes of action. Junior Kora Turner (Myakka City, Fla.) served for 30 minutes in goal for the Trojans, recording one save while freshman Amelia King (Dacula, Ga.) rounded out the goalie carousel for the Black and Gold, making a pair of saves in the final quarter.

Anderson wasted no time gaining the advantage in the contest as they were able to rip four goals past the Wasps keeper in the opening five minutes of action before Emory & Henry were able to turn in a goal of their own to make it 4-1. However, the Trojans responded with seven more goals in the frame, including a buzzer-beating score from Cannon to round out the quarter with a ten-goal advantage at 11-1.

The Trojans were able to add five more goals in the second quarter to just one for the Wasps. Anderson's five goals in the frame were each scored by a different shooter and continued that trend through the third and fourth quarter as within each quarter the Trojans did not have a repeat scorer, with just Dobson and Cannon recording multiple goals in the second half. After leading at the half 16-2, the Trojans were able to turn in four more goals in the third and three goals in the fourth to wrap up the 23-3 win.

The Black and Gold return to action on Saturday, March 2 as they make the trip to Hickory, N.C. to take on Lenoir-Rhyne University in a conference showdown with a 1:00 p.m. first draw.
