Cannon Scores Eight as Trojans Down Mars Hill 24-1

MARS HILL, N.C. – Hitting the road for their penultimate conference contest of the regular season, the Anderson University (13-2, 8-1 SAC) women's lacrosse team took home a convincing win over the Lions of Mars Hill (3-11, 1-8 SAC) by a 24-1 margin on Saturday, April 13.

Sophomore Alicia Cannon (Tarzana, Calif.) posted a career day in the contest as she tallied eight goals and three assists to tally 11 points in the contest. Freshman Ava Skeffington (Charlotte, N.C.) was able to post a trio of goals in the contest as well while senior Kelly Coster (Poughquag, N.Y.) turned in a trio of both assists and goals. Four other Trojans had multi-goal games to support the efforts between the cage as sophomore Ava Drath (Hudsonville, Mich.) picked up her 12th win of the year while junior Kora Turner (Myakka City, Fla.) recorded the only save on the day, playing the whole second half.

Anderson wasted no time jumping out the lead in the contest, scoring the first goal of the game just 27 seconds in. The next two goals were both from the crosse of Cannon as she put the Trojans up by three with over 12 minutes to go in the first quarter. The Trojans continued to pour it on as Cannon recorded a hat-trick plus one in the opening frame, with her third goal forcing the running clock for the remainder of the contest, with Anderson leading 12-0 after one period.

Five more goals were added to the Trojans tally in the second quarter with Mars Hill sneaking a goal past Drath to make the contest 17-1 at the break. The Black and Gold recorded three goals in the third and four in the fourth, including the last two of the game from sophomore Lili Bouwma (Grand Rapids, Mich.), securing the 24-1 win.

The Trojans return home for their final regular season conference matchup looking to secure their seeding in the conference tournament as they welcome in Newberry on Wednesday, April 17 for a 4:00 p.m. first draw.
