ANDERSON, S.C. - After a convincing 9-0 victory over Southern Wesleyan last weekend, Anderson University women's tennis looks to go 2-0 on the young season as it heads to Columbia College for a 4 p.m. start on Thursday.
The Trojans
Three Trojans won their respective singles matches by 6-0, 6-0
scores, as returners Alexandra Ebner and Lindsay Gregory cruised at
No. 3 and No. 4, respectively, while newcomer Mairead Cleary earned
her first singles win in the Black and Gold at the No. 2 position.
At No. 1, Rebecca Bruning claimed a 6-0, 6-1 victory, as she earned
this week's AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week
award. The weekly honor was Bruning's second of her career.
Prior to the singles round, the Trojans opened with three wins in the doubles round, headlined by an 8-0 blanking by Bruning and Ebner at No. 2. Cleary and Gregory also shined with an 8-1 win at No. 1, to seal the lead heading into the singles round.
With a win on Wednesday, Anderson would have its first 2-0 start to a season in recorded school history.
The Koalas
Wednesday will be Columbia's first match of the season, as it
closed the 2014 regular season with a 4-6 overall record. Over the
offseason, Nancy Powell took over the head coaching duties after
serving as the tennis professional the Lexington County Tennis
Center Staff Professional since 2008.
The Koalas boast four seniors on this season's roster, as their fall season was headlined by a 5-4 victory over Agnes Scott.
