Trojans Split Day With Wasps; Set for Series Rubber Match on Monday

ANDERSON, S.C. - Senior Carlos Hernandez (Maracay, Venezuela) Kevin Sosa (Deltona, Fla.) were each able to tally a trio of RBIs in the opening game of a doubleheader as the Anders University (9-7, 3-5 SAC) split the day in conference action against Emory & Henry (2-13, 1-7 SAC) on Sunday, March 3 at Anderson Memorial Stadium.

Freshman Zach Stover (Powdersville, S.C.) led the squad with three hitsin the first game to match the effort from junior Wesley Mann (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) in the contest as well. Mann recorded a pair of RBIs with Stover adding one as well. Junior Ben Smith (Cleveland, Tenn.) picked up the win while freshman Corbin Childers (Spartanburg, S.C.) notched his first save of the year.

GAME ONE: Anderson 10, Emory & Henry 1

After a scoreless opening frame for both squads the Trojans were able to get on the board first with a pair of runs in the bottom of the second. Stover got the inning started with a double before Anderson was able to string together three straight singles that brought home both runs giving them the 2-0 lead.

Though they wouldn't score again until the fifth inning, the Trojans were able to match the inning number with the number of runs they scored, posting five runs in the frame. Sophomore Grey Wells (Chaplin,S.C.) knocked the first run on an RBI-triple before Hernandez and Stover watched tallied an RBI in the inning. Sosa rounded out the frame with a single through the infield that brought home a pair and extended the Anderson lead to 7-0.

Emory & Henry were able to scratch across a run in the sixth, but the Trojans added three more in the eighth, including a solo home run to wrap up their final 10-1 win.

GAME TWO: Emory & Henry 3, Anderson 0

Offense was few and far between in the second game of the day as only nine hits were recorded between the two teams. For the Trojans it was Hernandez who led the way in the night cap with a pair of hits. Unfortunately for the Anderson faithful only the Wasps were able to plate runs in the second game, kicking off their scoring with a solo shot in the top of the third.

E&H was able to tack on another run to their scoreline in each of the sixth and seventh innings while they were able to hold the Trojans no further than second base on the diamond to secure the 3-0 win.

The two teams complete their weekend series with a rubber match tomorrow, March 4 at 1:00 p.m.
