Maxwell and Hobbs Combine For Twenty-Seven Strikeouts As Offense Powers Trojans To Sweep Over Lincoln Memorial

ANDERSON, S.C. – Senior Laken Maxwell mowed down 18 batters in game one while sophomore Carson Hobbs (5 k's) and Maxwell (4 k's) combined for nine strikeouts in game two to help propel Anderson University softball (25-13, 14-2 SAC)  to two South Atlantic Conference wins over foe Lincoln Memorial (23-21, 10-10 SAC), winning game one, 5-0, and winning the nightcap, 7-1, backed by superb pitching and timely hitting on Wednesday afternoon at the AU Softball Complex.

Game One

  • The Trojans outhit the Railsplitters, 9-2.
  • Anderson used three home runs to score four of the five runs. Freshman Lulu Luedtke also drove in a run with a single up the middle. Hobbs hit home run number three, Whitaker hit number 12 and Vickery hit number eight on the season.
  • Sophomore Shelby Bandt went 2-for-3.
  • Senior Laken Maxwell (14-6) tossed a two-hit shutout while striking out 18.

Game Two

  • AU took the early lead after scoring one-run in the bottom of the first inning before exploding for six runs in the fifth inning.
  • The Black and Gold drilled three doubles to add to their season total of 49. Junior Maddie Carpenter, freshman Paige Vickery and sophomore Lauren Brakovec each recorded a double.
  • Bandt, Carpenter and Hobbs each had two hits apiece.
  • Sophomore Carson Hobbs (3-2) pitched a tremendous game only giving up one-hit and striking out five batters in five innings in the circle. Maxwell came in to close out the final two innings giving up two hits and striking out four.

Next Up

Anderson will host SAC opponent Coker on Saturday for Senior Day. First-pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 12 pm.
