Mars Hill, N.C.- Anderson University softball (30-14, 19-3 SAC) secured at least a second place finish in the SAC regular season standings with a sweep over SAC opponent Mars Hill (15-27, 4-16 SAC), winning game one,11-9, and game two, 9-1, on Thursday afternoon at Ponder Field.
Game One
- Anderson and Mars Hill each hammered out 11 hits apiece. The Lions hit four home runs while the Trojans hit a double, a triple and two home runs.
- Mars Hill committed three errors while Anderson committed two.
- AU's Maddie Carpenter and Carson Hobbs each went 3-for-4 while Maggie Nauck batted 2-for-3 to help the Black and Gold score 11 runs.
- Maxwell started and pitched 3.0 innings, giving up two hits while striking out five. Hobbs (5-2) pitched the final four inning picking up her fifth win of the season.
Game Two
- Anderson out hit Mars Hill, 13-2.
- AU's Paige Vickery, Ava Worthy and Lulu Luedtke each hit a home run for the Black and Gold.
- The Trojans scored two runs over the three innings, scoring seven more over the fourth and fifth innings to eventually run rule the Lions.
- Hobbs went 3-for-4 with Shelby Bandt, Carpenter and Vickery each collecting two hits.
- Graduate Morgen Baker-Celis (8-3) pitched a 5.0 inning complete gave, giving up just two hits while striking out nine batters.
Next Up
Anderson will travel to SAC foe Carson-Newman on Sunday to wrap up regular season play. First-pitch of the doubleheader is slated for 1 pm.
