McGaha Fires 68; Trojans Lead Field by 12 Strokes

CLEVELAND, Tenn. -- Junior Kennedy McGaha (Honea Path, S.C.) sits in a tie atop the leaderboard as she fired an opening round 68 (-4) to help lead the Anderson University women's golf team to a 12 stroke lead at the 2024 NCAA South Regional hosted at Cleveland Country Club on Monday, May 6.

The day kicked off with a three and a half hour weather delay before the Trojans took the course, but quickly vaulted to the top spot on the scoreboard and continued to stay there throughout the round, wrapping up the day with a 282 (-6). Saint Leo currently sits second in the tournament after an opening round 294 (+6) while Flagler and Lynn are tied for third with rounds of 296 (+8).

Sophomore Kennedy Gooding (Lexington, S.C.) and senior Jessica Rathbone (Montpelier, Va.) each carded rounds of 71 (-1) in the round to sit tied for fourth on the individual leaderboard. Junior Zoey Iglesias (Port St. Lucie, Fla.) sits tied for 10th in the field with her 72 (E) while sophomore Aly Francis (Stockbridge, Ga.) wrapped up the day with a 78 (+6) to sit in a tie for 48th.

The Trojans return to the course at 9:06 a.m. on Tuesday, May 7, as they look to expand their lead in second round action.
