Bruning Selected to Academic All-District At-Large Team

ANDERSON, S.C. - For the second year in a row, Anderson University women's tennis standout Rebecca Bruning has been named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District At-Large Team for District III, selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) on Thursday.

Bruning was selected to the South Atlantic Conference All-SAC Second Team Doubles and Singles list at the end of the regular season, as she closed the year with a 15-6 overall record playing at one of top three positions throughout the year. The Athens, Ga. native boasts a 45-11 overall career singles record, including a 27-4 mark against league opponents during the regular season. Bruning's season was highlighted by wins over two top 50 players in the nation earning the junior a No. 45 national ranking in singles play. Bruning is currently the No. 14th ranked singles player in the Southeast Region.

In doubles, Bruning and teammate Ivey Welborn were ranked No. 8 in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southeast Regional Rankings to close the regular season. The duo posted a 16-6 overall record and 9-2 mark in conference action, as they landed on the All-SAC Second Team Doubles list.

In the classroom, Bruning carries a 4.0 GPA while majoring in Biochemistry, as she has been named to the Anderson University Dean's List following every semester of her collegiate career. Bruning has led the women's tennis team to five Shirley Jacks Awards, which honors the team with the highest team GPA at Anderson. The junior is also a member of Chi Alpha Sigma, the national honors society for student-athletes and a member of Gamma Beta Phi, a service-based honor society.
