ANDERSON, S.C. -Anderson University men's and women's tennis
teams will finally return to the court after a week and a half
lay-off when they welcome Peach Belt opponent USC-Aiken to the AU
Tennis Complex. Both Trojan teams have started the season off
victorious with the men winning their opening match and the women
posting two wins in their first two matches. The non-conference
match is scheduled for Wednesday at 2 p.m.
The Trojans
On the men's side, Anderson is 1-0 on the young season as it looks
to gain momentum heading into conference play this coming weekend.
The Pacers have had the upper hand defeating the Trojans 8-1 in
2014 and 5-0 a year ago while holding an all-time 5-4 advantage
dating back to 1998.
For the women's team, they are enjoying opening up their second
straight season with a 3-0 record. The Trojans posted a 9-0 victory
over Emmanuel back in September then put away Columbia 9-0 to start
the Spring season then five days later the Trojans' claimed an 8-1
win over Emmanuel. The Black and Gold have spilt with USC Aiken the
past two seasons. The Pacers won the contest in 2014, 7-2 with
Anderson winning 5-3 in the most recent meeting. The two teams
began playing each other in 2006 with USC Aiken holding a 6-2
all-time lead.
The Pacers
The men's program is returning a veteran team that posted a 9-9
season just missing a spot in the Peach Belt conference tournament.
The Pacers come in with a 2-1 record and are looking to post their
second road victory before returning home to open conference
play.
The women are coming off an injury plagued 9-12 season after starting the year off with an impressive 6-2 record. The Pacers are off to a fast start in 2016 donning a 3-1 record and are hopeful to find a spot in postseason play.
