CENTRAL, S.C. - The Anderson women's tennis team won its second straight match in convincing fashion by rolling past Southern Wesleyan, 8-1, in nonconference action, Saturday afternoon at Nettles Park.
Karen Faria and Ivey Welborn teamed up to defeat Southern Wesleyan's Aimee Dorley and Chyna Jones, 8-2, at No. 1 doubles, while Rebecca Bruning and Natalia San Jose got past Samantha Powell and Jennifer Ball, 8-5, at No. 2 doubles. Anderson's Abigail Gregory and Nikkola Wichenko knocked off Elizabeth Mulkey and Tadala Kandulu by an identical 8-5 count.
The Trojans' Faria defeated Aimee Dorley, 6-4, 6-0, at the No. 1 singles' slot, with Welborn blanking Ball, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2. Rebecca Bruning knocked off Chyna Jones, 6-3, 6-0 at No. 3, while the Warriors earned their lone win of the afternoon when Kandulu defeated San Jose, 8-0, at No. 4.
AU's Alexandra Ebner topped Powell, 6-1, 6-2, at No. 5 singles,
while Jennifer Holcombe defeated Mulkey, 8-1, to round out the
scoring.
Anderson will get back on the courts Thursday, when the Trojans
play host to Belmont Abbey at the AU Tennis Center. First-serve is
scheduled for 2 p.m.
