Women’s Tennis Defeats Catawba

SALISBURY, N.C. - After winning two out of three matches in the doubles round, Anderson University women's tennis won all six singles matches and cruised to an 8-1 victory over Catawba in South Atlantic Conference action Saturday afternoon at the Johnson Tennis Center.

With the victory, the Trojans have won three straight and improve to a perfect 3-0 mark in conference play. The win also improves Anderson's overall record to 6-1 on the year.

In the doubles round, the tandem of Ivey Welborn and Rebecca Bruning won 8-3 over Liz Renteria and Erisa Onchi at the No. 1 position. Following the duo was Karen Faria and Alexandra Ebner with an 8-2 triumph over Kristen Rocko and Lauren Sledd at the No. 2 spot.

The Trojans controlled the singles portion winning all six matches. Sophomore Ivey Welborn defeated Erisa Onchi 6-3, 4-6, 6-0 handing Onchi her first setback of the season, after entering today's matchup 10-0.

Anderson is slated to return to the courts on Sunday when it travels to Queens. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
