Bruning Earns AstroTurf SAC Women’s Tennis Player of The Week


ROCK HILL, S.C. - After posting two singles victories and one doubles win last week, junior Rebecca Bruning of Anderson University women's tennis has been named AstroTurf South Atlantic Conference Player of the Week for matches played between Feb. 29-Mar. 6, as announced by the conference office on Monday.

Bruning dominated singles play for the week defeating Javiera Gonzalez of Lincoln Memorial 6-1, 6-1 and defeating the No. 24 singles player in the country, Lena Dimmer of The California University of Pennsylvania 6-1, 6-2. With the victories, Bruning improves her singles record to 7-2 on the year.

In doubles play, No. 22 duo of Bruning and Ivey Welborn defeated Lincoln Memorial's pairing of Elena Vasilyeva and Priscilla Bulandres, 8-4 while losing to the No. 12 tandem in the country from No. 14 California (Pa), 8-2. Bruning and Welborn are 7-2 on the year while combining for a 20-9 overall record as No. 1 doubles partners.

Bruning and the Trojans return to the courts Monday when they face Conference Carolina opponent Converse. First serve is set for 3:30 p.m
